ABOUT RESIDENTIAL SOLAR

Installing solar electric or solar hot water panels on the roof of your home is one of the most practical things you can do to increase the value of your property, save on energy costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

HOME VALUE APPRECIATION

A recent National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) study found that solar panels increase the value of your property by $5,500 per kilowatt installed – in addition to energy cost savings.

COST SAVINGS AND REDUCED EMISSIONS

While prices of fossil fuel energy sources continue to rise, the cost of solar energy has fallen sharply such that it is now cheaper per kilowatt hour than conventional energy from your utility.   And reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions with solar can provide the equivalent to taking thousands of cars off the road.

UTILITY REBATES

Rebate funds are available from most Los Angeles area utilities to reduce upfront costs:

Utility Rebate Amount
Azusa Light & Water $2,350/kilowatt
Burbank Water & Power $1,280/kilowatt
Glendale Water & Power n/a
Los Angeles DWP $1,050/kilowatt
Pasadena Water & Power $1,400/kilowatt
Southern California Edison $1,100/kilowatt
Southern California Gas $12.82/therm

FEDERAL TAX INCENTIVES

A 30% federal tax credit helps reduce the upfront cost of solar even further.  An accelerated depreciation bonus further reduces costs, but only a residential system is purchased via a commercial business such as a Solar Lease or Power Purchase Agreement.

BULK PRICING DISCOUNTS

Discounted pricing for GoSolar.LA participants begins at $4,160 per kilowatt for a small residential solar electric system.  Larger systems benefit further through reduced pricing.

How Solar Works

Solar panels on your roof convert sunshine into electricity or hot water – which is then fed to your electric meter or hot water tank for use inside your home.
