California Legislature Passes Solar-Friendly Measures

In the final days of the 2012 legislative session, California’s lawmakers have passed a number of bills seeking to keep California the top solar state in the nation. Among them are Senate Bill 594, which will allow a single solar system to offset electrical demand at multiple meters – especially important for farmers, ranchers, and other agriculturalists – and Senate Bill 1222, which caps fees which local governments may charge for commercial and residential solar system permits. While a much-vaunted ‘community solar’ bill (allowing homeowners and businesses to buy ‘subscriptions’ in offsite renewable energy facilities) did not pass, the concept will likely be considered again in 2013.
