Caltech receives millions in Energy Department grants

Caltech was awarded millions of dollars in Department of Energy grants to work on solar energy and power grid efficiency. Pasadena’s California Institute of Technology on Wednesday was awarded $2.4 million by the Department of Energy to work on solar energy technology, according to the Department of Energy. The federal agency announced $130 million in awards for 66 projects around the country, including $33 million for 18 projects in California. Caltech received $2.4 million to back research into an optical device that splits sunlight into individual color bands to more efficiently convert sunlight into power.
